Simon_Ortiz for blogI was picking my husband up at the airport Wednesday night. He sat in the car with me and said he had seen University of Montana literature professor Angelica Lawson inside the airport, assisting an older Indian man. I said, that Indian man is Simon Ortiz. I knew he would be arriving since he had two poetry readings scheduled on Thursday, one up on the Flathhead Reservation and another reading Friday at  4 p.m. at the University of Montana campus. See the flyer link below for more details. Anyway, no sooner had I told my husband who the Indian man was when Ortiz and Lawson stepped outside the baggage claim area. My husband was quick to introduce himself to Ortiz, an acclaimed poet and “a key figure in the second wave of the Native American Renaissance.” Ms. Lawson sent me information earlier this week. I’d encourage anyone who is available to stop by and listen to Ortiz, who is from the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico.

Here is the Friday UM schedule — the Ortiz flyer — with more details.

See you there!
