As a Mormon, Harvard Law grad and self-described teetotaler, Sen. Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, was considered the Gem State politician least likely to cause scandal, until he was pulled over by Alexandria, Va., police early on Sunday and allegedly failed a field sobriety test. Crapo had run a red light and was charged with a DUI. He quickly accepted responsibility and was defended in a Christmas Day editorial by the Idaho Statesman, which declared: “It would be unfair to judge Crapo, or anybody else, on one mistake.” But Idaho’s Republican politicians have come to be known for their “mistakes.” These include: –Sen.
