The Argus Leader in Sioux Falls is seeking a talented Content Coach to lead our NOW news team (includes breaking news, business and sports) and elevate their reporting and writing skills. We’re looking for a passionate editor with a knack for recognizing a good story and helping reporters flex their enterprise muscles.


The successful candidate understands how to use content to reach specific audiences by having a daily conversation with readers, how to tell stories in unique ways and how to use multimedia to complement the written word. This coach will be based in Sioux Falls, work with other editors and reporters across our three South Dakota newsrooms (Sioux Falls, Aberdeen and Watertown) and will directly oversee the work of eight reporters. We need someone who shows urgency to accelerate a story’s path to publication and guides journalists by consultation and coaching before, during and after the writing process. We want someone to develop sources, use data in stories and edit for clarity and accuracy.


Requirements for this position include exceptional coaching ability, excellent communication skills, deep understanding and curiosity of the competition, effective use of metrics and experience with multiple storytelling techniques across platforms. Candidates also must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field and preference will be given to those with prior media management experience.
