IMFA Hires New Communications Consultant/Website Manager

Randolph, New Jersey – The Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance (IMFA) has hired a seasoned communications consultant, journalist and public relations director as its new Communications Consultant/Website Manager.

Freeman was a long-time news and features reporter for The Star-Ledger of New Jersey, covering general assignment news, government, health, education, the arts, and entertainment. She has worked in communications for several New Jersey school districts and managed a community school, overseeing programming and a staff of more than 100 people. In addition, Freeman has led a wide range of communications, public relations, and marketing projects for many nonprofit and community organizations through her own firm, Allison Freeman Associates LLC. She is currently the Director of Communications for Healthcare Institute of New Jersey and a communications consultant for the Calais School and Calais Foundation.

“Allison’s strong journalism background, as well as her numerous communications positions and her years as a consultant and website manager for many non-profits make her very well-suited for this role,” said Jodi Rave Spotted Bear, IMFA executive director. “We are confident she can help the Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance strengthen our communications outreach and engage our stakeholders in creative and impactful ways.”

Freeman has received several awards for newsletters and websites from the New Jersey School Public Relations Association as well as awards for her writing including the New Jersey Governor’s Award in Arts Education, the New Jersey Music Educators Association Distinguished Service Award and the New Jersey Press Association’s Robert B. Kelly Award, honorable mention. Freeman has a Bachelor of Science in newspaper journalism from Syracuse University.

Jodi Rave Spotted Bear

Jodi Rave Spotted Bear is the founder and director of the Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance, a 501-C-3 nonprofit organization with offices in Bismarck, N.D. and the Fort Berthold Reservation. Jodi spent 15 years reporting for the mainstream press. She's been awarded prestigious Nieman and John S. Knight journalism fellowships at Harvard and Stanford, respectively. She also an MIT Knight Science Journalism Project fellow. Her writing is featured in "The Authentic Voice: The Best Reporting on Race and Ethnicity," published by Columbia University Press. Jodi currently serves as a Society of Professional Journalists at-large board member, an SPJ Foundation board member, and she chairs the SPJ Freedom of Information Committee. Jodi has won top journalism awards from mainstream and Native press organizations. She earned her journalism degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
