MHA Nation releases their list of tribal candidates running for chair, 3 representative positions

The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation announced the list of tribal member candidates for the nation’s tribal business council election, according to the tribes election board notice released on July 30.
The MHA Nation, located on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota, has four seats available on the Three Affiliated Tribes Business Council, including three representatives from the political districts of Four Bears, Twin Buttes, Parshall-Lucky Mound, and the at-large chairman position.
The list includes six unofficial candidates for the chairman’s seat. incumbent Mark N. Fox, Carol Good Bear, Lewis Gwin, Ronald Brugh, Scott Satermo, and former Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation Chairman Tex Hall all seek a win to lead the MHA Nation of the Three Affiliated Tribes.
The Four Bears representative position also has six members running that includes Edward “Tyke” Danks Jr,, Kevin Finely, Marcus D. Levings, Robert White, Wendi Wells, and Yvette Young Bear. Incumbent V. Judy Brugh is not seeking re-election.
Incumbent Mervin Packineau and Doris Packineau are both running for the Parshall-Lucky Mound representative position. Incumbent Cory Spotted Bear and Margaret P. Pfeifer are vying for the Twin Buttes seat.
Candidate registration opened in June and tribal members had a July 27 deadline to secure a spot on the ballot, according to the MHA Nations election notice.
The primary tribal elections are scheduled for Sept. 20 and the general election is Nov. 8.
